The mornings around here are always a complete rush which makes it hard to grab breakfast which is why I started making these energy bites. Just one holds me over until lunch which is great for this mama on the go! But since I constantly have them in the fridge they have also become a great snack for the whole household to bridge the gap after lunch but before dinner.
Here are the stars of these bites:
Old Fashioned Oats–Oats are loaded with important vitamins, minerals and antioxidant plant compounds. They are a good source of carbs and fiber, including the powerful fiber beta-glucan–which is good for our gut health, reduce cholesterol levels and reduce blood sugars.
Chia Seeds–The high-protein content in chia seeds may also help control appetite. Eleven out of the 12 grams of carbohydrates in chia seeds are fiber, which promotes healthy digestion. As a source of omega-3 fatty acids, chia seeds can help to reduce inflammation while decreasing the chance of developing different heart conditions like deep vein and arterial thrombosis or arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat).
Coconut Flakes–Unsweetened coconut flakes are rich in fiber and MCTs. They also offer a number of benefits including but not limited to improved heart health, aid in weight loss and help with digestion.
Peanut Butter–Peanut butter is a great source of fiber and protein. Peanut butters (as well as other nut butters) are packed full of a healthy fat profile with plenty of mono and polyunsaturated fats plus antioxidants, potassium, fiber, and phytosterols.
Raw Honey–Raw honey is packed with tons of antioxidants which fight free radical damage. It also has antibacterial components to combat harmful bacteria . It also promotes oral health as honey can fend off gingivitis and periodontal disease.
