Oh Capri, you were a dream! Cole and I absolutely loved our stay on this beautiful Italian island and so so so wish we would have spent 3 nights here instead of 2 — so that is my biggest TIP, stay a minimum of 3 nights here! Before I dive into the day to day fun, below is a quick recap of our overall trip. Reminder this is blog post PART 2 of a 3 part series on our 10 year wedding anniversary trip.
Day 6 — Off to Capri
There we are to the left, taking our last photo in the picturesque town of Positano before heading on the boat to the magical island of Capri. A few helpful tips to make your journey to Capri from locations along the Amalfi Coast the most enjoyable.
#1 Check the time of the ferry! Seriously, this may sound silly but they can change….Plus you will have a couple of options as far a the speed of the boat and I suggest grabbing the fastest one.
#2 Have your hotel call you a luggage porter this way they can be in charge of getting your luggage down to the port while you just worry about yourself
#3 Have your hotel reserve your spot on the ferry boat, sometimes these boats sell out so you want to make sure you have a reservation. You still will have to go to the ticket counter to pay & grab your tickets but this guarantees your spot.
Day 6 cont. — Capri
As you are pulling into the port of Capri you can already see why this island is one of the most sought vacation destinations. Gorgeous hotels are tucked up in the mountains and beautiful blue waters are below.
Accommodations: I did a ton of research on where to stay while on this leg of our trip and found out that Capri is actually made up of 2 areas– Capri and Anacapri. Anacapri is a smaller, more local area that sounded just our speed. We stayed at one of the most unique and gorgeous properties we have ever stayed at. Hotel Caesar Augustus offered the most amazing views, has a full working garden while they harvest their own vegetables and fruits and the pool area will make you want to stay on vacation for forever. As promised on my last blog post, I will be doing a full blog post on more details of each hotel we stayed at.
Transportation: Our hotel provided the transport to and from the port for us and our luggage. To get to dinners and/or activities our hotel simply called us a fun open air taxi to take us around.
Activities: We spent this day, enjoying our hotel amenities, like that fabulous pool I mentioned AND the fresh rosemary steam room.
Dining: The highlight of food for this day was our delicious lunch on the terrace of Hotel Caesar Augustus overlooking the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. We started off stuffed zucchini blossoms that knocked our socks off! Then I had an incredible prawn pasta and bowl of mussels! Perfecto! Our dinner that night was at the famous Ristorante da Paolino and I wouldn’t chose to go there again unless you were dying to see the beautiful lemon tree canopies.
Day 7 – Capri
Activities: We jumped on our private boat with captain and headed out to view all the grottos (yes, there are tons of grottos and just not the Famous Blue Grotto) and the 4 hour tour around Capri was perfect. Our hotel set up everything for us with the boat company which made the day super easy! We had heard while in Positano that we may have to wait hours to get into the Blue Grotto but thankfully we didn’t — TIP: get out early to the Blue Grotto as our guide says by 11 all the large tourists boats will start coming. The most amazing part of this whole experience was seeing how the rocks, sunlight and algae can change the color of the waters and create the famous blue, green and white grottos. I also highly suggest taking a dip into the cool Mediterranean as its amazing how easily you float!
After our boat tour, we walked up to the main shopping area of Capri. I’ll warn you now that if you plan on walking up these millions steps, you will be super sweaty, hot and beyond ready for a beverage once you hit the top. You may want to consider snagging a taxi instead (which is what we did when we headed back down!). Capri is known for their designer shops like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Dolce and Gabbana etc but there is also some local boutiques mixed in. We grab a quick pizza (and vino!) then hit the shops while exploring the main area of Capri. It was seriously a wonderful day!
Cont. Day 7 – Capri
Activities (we wish we had had an extra day for!): Take the chair lift up to the very top of Anacapri, Explore the main town area of Anacapri, Check out Villa San Michele
Dining: We ended up snagging a table at our hotel for dinner and it was again amazing! But we heard we should have grabbed a table at Ristorante Pulalli if we had had an extra night — see why I keep telling you guys to add one more night in so you can have 3 full nights on this beautiful island?!?
Now I will say if you want to have a fabulous cocktail hour before dinner any night on Capri, snagging a spot at our hotel’s Infiniti terrace is a must! The sunsets are unreal!
And now I’m off to put together PART 3 of our Italian vacation recap of our time spent in ROME, Ciao for now!
