Any given week when you walk into my kitchen you will see an arrangement of flowers — usually at least some of the flowers are orange as that is my absolute favorite color and I personally think it compliments all the copper in our home. Most people seemed stunned when they find out I put the arrangement together myself with loose flowers from my local grocer or local flower shop. I always respond that anyone could put together a beautiful arrangement in no time….they just need a little guidance to get them there. SO, here you go….step by step HOW TO ARRANGE AN ARRANGEMENT!
Step 1: Make sure you clean all leaves below the flower off so that they don’t rip out any of florals when placed in arrangement. Also, cut each stem to height on a diagonal.
Step 2: Make a base with a “bushy” type flower. (My favorite base flower is the Hydrangea!! I used 6 stems for this arrangement Another great option is mums!)
Step 3: Add your next most substantial flower–in this case mine is Roses. I like to leave about 1 inch between the top of the hydrangea and the base of the rose. I added 9 roses.
Step 4: Add in a floral/berry/greenery that has some texture and dimension. I chose to go with stems of beautiful cranberry colored berries called Red Hypericum. For inserting this flower, I randomly placed 6 stems around the roses. Insert the stem until it hits the leaves right below the berry bunch.
Step 5: Now its time to add some width to your arrangement. You will want to pick a flower that has a longer flower/leaf batch/seed pod to give you the right look. I chose to go with Aster Solidago and used 7 stems. Start with adding some stems towards the bottom of your arrangement and put them in so they appear almost horizontal then add a few more stems coming diagonally out the top.
And you have ARRANGED your 1st ARRANGEMENT! Yea! Now, you may notice that you don’t see any water in my vase, only burlap. If you want that look (can use burlap, ribbon, pretty much whatever your heart fancies) all you need to do is use a larger vase and insert a smaller vase with water into into. Then fill between the two vases with whatever you want.
